Do I need to melt the wax first?

No. Pour the pearls straight from the pouch, add a wick and light it. There is no melting, no hot pouring and no equipment.

Is a pearled candle safe?

It is a real flame, so it needs the same care as any candle. What we changed is the mechanics: the wick is designed to go out on its own when it is finished, only a small pool melts, and the pearls around it stay solid. We built safety into how it works — not just onto a warning label.

Can I use my own container?

Yes — any stable, undamaged, heat-safe container that is at least 10cm wide inside. Place each wick about 5cm from the sides, with at least 1cm of pearls under it.

How long does one 800g pouch last?

Up to 200+ hours of candlelight. One wick burns for about five hours, and each pouch includes 50 wicks — your total depends on how many wicks you light at once and for how long.

Does the bowl or jar get hot?

Every lit candle warms its container, and Emilie is a real flame too. What is different is how it burns: only a small pool melts around each wick and the pearls around it stay solid. Place it on a heat-resistant surface, never move it while it is lit, and let everything cool completely before you touch it.

Can I mix colours?

Yes, and it is one of the best parts. Mix unscented colours, pour them in layers, or sprinkle one colour over another to make patterns.

What is the 30-day Emilie promise?

Try Emilie at home. Unused products can be returned within 30 days under our returns terms, and if something is not right with a product you have used, we will help — with setup advice, a replacement, store credit or another fair solution.

The old candle habitA tunnelled jar candle

The candle upgrade

We stopped accepting candle problems as normal.

Pick a jar, light it, hope it burns properly. Then the wick smokes, the wax tunnels down the middle while good wax sits untouched at the edges, and the jar gets too hot to hold. When it’s finished, all of it — wax, wick, jar — goes in the bin.

We didn’t think that had to be the deal.

With an ordinary candle, the jar decides how it looks, how it burns, and how it ends.

With Emilie, you decide.

Ordinary candle vs Emilie

Same warm glow. A completely different candle system.

Both create candlelight. What happens before, during and after the flame is where everything changes.

Ordinary jar candle

Wick fixed to the base — burns wherever that leads: tunnelling, soot, an overheated jar.

Only the wax near the wick melts — the rest is locked in a jar you’ll throw away.

One large melt pool — can leave the glass dangerously hot.

Finished candle — wax, wick and jar all go in the bin.

The Emilie way

Wick sits freely in the pearls — designed to burn cleanly and go out on its own.

Only the wax around the wick melts — far less gets left behind.

A smaller, local melt pool — stays contained around the flame.

Finished candle — you refill the pearls and keep the same vessel.

Use what you need. Keep what you love.Emilie separates the wax, wick and vessel, so your candle can be refreshed instead of replaced.
The mechanics behind EmilieA local melt pool around a free wick

The Emilie Free-Wick System

Why your wick never touches the bottom of the jar.

Most candles fix the wick to the base and let it burn wherever that leads. Emilie doesn’t. Every wick sits loose in the pearls — clear of the base, clear of the walls. It’s the one decision behind almost everything Emilie does differently.

  1. 01

It’s why refilling actually works.Melted wax never bonds to your vessel, so once a session ends, the cooled disc lifts out in one piece. Crumble it back into the pearls, add a fresh wick, and your candle is ready again — no scraping, no soaking.

  2. 02

It’s why the flame is designed to go out on its own.A wick with nothing holding it stays upright only as long as there’s wax around it. Once it reaches the end of its usable length, it tips into the melted pool beneath it and the flame is designed to go out.

  3. 03

The pearls are designed to help cover the flame.Because there’s always more solid wax around the flame than melted wax beneath it, we built the mechanics so that if a lit vessel is ever knocked over, the loose pearls fall in and help smother the flame rather than spill fuel towards it.

We won’t call this the safest candle in the world — no one should make that promise about an open flame. We built safety into the mechanics, not just onto a warning label. Emilie is still a real candle with a real flame: always burn it on a stable, heat-safe surface, keep it away from children, pets and anything flammable, and never leave it burning unattended.

Ready in minutesPour, add a wick, light, refresh

How Emilie works

Your first candle moment, in four simple steps.

No melting, no hot pouring, no equipment. The first time takes a couple of minutes — so does the hundredth.

  1. 01Pour.Pour the pearls into your Emilie bowl — or any suitable heat-safe container.
  2. 02Add a wick.Position one of the prepared cotton wicks. No melting, hot wax pouring or equipment.
  3. 03Light it.The wax immediately around the wick forms a small local melt pool.
  4. 04Refresh.Once completely cool, lift out the wax disc, add a fresh wick and enjoy it again.

Get it right the first time

  • A heat-safe container at least 10cm wide inside

  • The wick in the centre about 5cm from the sides

  • At least 1cm of pearls under the wick

  • About 0.6cm of wick showing — more just burns the wick, not the candle

  • Never leave it unattended — it’s still a real flame

Tips & Tricks

How much wax do I need?

One pouch is 800g. Here’s what fits.

You choose how much to pour — the rest waits in the pouch for the next candle.

Your own container? Any heat-safe bowl or jar at least 10cm wide inside, with every wick about 5cm from the sides and at least 1cm of pearls under it. Wicks can sit close together — they simply share one melt pool.

What to expect

From the first pour to the fiftieth wick.

  1. Minute 1Pour and place a wick.Straight from the pouch — no melting.
  2. Minute 2Light it.A calm flame, and a small pool starts to form around the wick.
  3. The eveningOnly the centre melts. The pearls around it stay pearls.
  4. Around 5 hoursThe wick is finished. It tips into the pool and is designed to go out — that’s the Free-Wick System doing its job.
  5. Next timeLift out the disc, add a wick.A brand-new candle in the same bowl — or pour the pearls somewhere else entirely.

Make it yours

Paint with pearls.

Your candle is a canvas. Mix colours, pour them in layers, draw a line or a wave across the top in a second colour — the pattern stays until you decide to change it.

  1. 01Mix coloursBlend fragrance-free colours into your own shade, or pour them in layers.
  2. 02Draw patternsLines, waves, dots, initials — sprinkle a second colour on the surface, away from the wick.
  3. 03Emilie stencils Coming soonLay a stencil on your candle, sprinkle decor pearls through the cut-out — a tree, a pumpkin — and lift it off by its little tab.
  4. 04Decor pearls Coming soonSmall pouches of colour, just for decorating — not for a whole candle.

Zero waste, by design

Nothing goes in the bin. Not even the wax.

When a wick is finished, the cooled disc is still good wax. Here’s what to do with it.

01FlipAt least 6mm of wick showing under the cooled disc? Turn it over, set it back in the same candle and level it with the pearls around it — a brand-new candle, ready to light.
02CrushBreak the disc back into the pearls — it melts again next time.
03SaveCollect your discs until you have a few.
04SmashPut them in a bag or a mortar and smash them into pieces.
05RemixDiscs from different candles make a brand-new multicolour — even multi-scent — candle.
Flip · crush · saveFlip it, crush it, save it

Keep the bowl, reuse the wax, change the look. The only thing left over is the tiny end of a used wick.

The family behind Emilie

We created Emilie for the home we wanted our daughter to grow up in.

Emilie began with our daughter, Emilia. We loved the warmth that candles brought into our home, but we were never completely comfortable with the way an ordinary candle burned — a fixed wick, a very hot jar and an open flame that could keep burning until someone noticed it.

We wanted to create candlelight that felt calmer and more considered. A candle we could refill instead of throw away, shape around our own home, and enjoy with greater peace of mind around our daughter and our cat.

That idea became Emilie Pearled Candle. Today, we make or individually prepare every part of the experience by hand in our UK studio — from our pearled wax and cotton wicks to our vessels, decorative pieces and wick dishes.

Emilie was named after Emilia because she is the reason we cared enough to create it properly.

From our family to yours. Thank you for giving something we created for our own home a place in yours.

Sara & Artur
Do I need to melt the wax first?

No. Pour the pearls straight from the pouch, add a wick and light it. There is no melting, no hot pouring and no equipment.

How long does one 800g pouch last?

Up to 200+ hours of candlelight. One wick burns for about five hours, and each pouch includes 50 wicks — your total depends on how many wicks you light at once and for how long.

Can I use my own container?

Yes — any stable, undamaged, heat-safe container that is at least 10cm wide inside. Place each wick about 5cm from the sides, with at least 1cm of pearls under it.

How much wick should show above the pearls?

About 6mm (0.6cm) — no more. A wick burns together with the wax that melts around it: that wax is its fuel. With 1–2cm showing you mostly burn the wick, not the candle.

What happens if an Emilie candle is knocked over?

Set up as we show you, there is always far more solid wax around the flame than melted wax under it, so the loose pearls fall in and help cover the flame instead of spilling fuel towards it. Please still keep it where it can’t be knocked.

Can I mix colours?

Yes, and it is one of the best parts. Mix unscented colours, pour them in layers, or sprinkle one colour over another to make patterns.

Can I put the pearls back in the pouch?

Yes. When you do not need the candle any more, pour the pearls back into the pouch and put it away — it takes no space until next time.

How long does delivery take?

Most orders leave us the next business day — sometimes within two, because everything is handmade in small batches. UK: Royal Mail 48, or Royal Mail 24 if you choose the faster option at checkout. EU and US: FedEx Connect Plus, 2–5 business days, with all duties and taxes included.

Why are prices in Europe and the US a little higher?

Because they already include every duty, tax and customs fee. The price you see is the final price — no surprises at delivery.
