Real flame, real care

Candle Safety

Emilie gives you more freedom to create and restyle candlelight, but it is still a real candle with a real flame. Read these instructions before use and keep them for future reference.

Never leave a burning candle unattended.

Keep it away from children, pets, draughts and anything that can catch fire. Place it on a flat, stable, heat-resistant surface and extinguish it before leaving the room or going to sleep.

Prepare carefully

Before lighting

Take a moment to check the complete setup before every use.

Choose the location carefully

  • Use a flat, stable and heat-resistant surface.
  • Keep the candle away from curtains, bedding, paper, furniture, clothing and other flammable materials.
  • Do not position it beneath shelves, cabinets or other overhanging surfaces.
  • Keep it away from draughts, fans and open windows.

Check the vessel

The container must be clean, dry, undamaged, stable and suitable for candle use. Do not use cracked glass, lightweight containers, flammable materials or anything that may tip easily.

Keep the area clear

Remove matches, wick trimmings and packaging from around the candle before you light it.

Read the product guidance

Follow the instructions supplied with your refill, vessel or set. Different container widths and shapes may require different wick placement or quantities.

The foundation of the setup

Containers

The freedom to use different vessels comes with responsibility for choosing one that is genuinely suitable.

At least 10cm wide inside

For one wick, use a container at least 10cm wide inside. Wider containers can take more wicks — each about 5cm from the sides.

Heat-safe does not mean indestructible

Glass, ceramic and metal may be suitable, but material alone is not enough. The vessel must be designed or reasonably suitable for candle heat, free from damage and able to remain stable during use.

The distance that matters most

Place every wick about 5cm from the sides, with at least 1cm of pearls under it. The flame must never touch the container.

Do not improvise with unsafe objects

Do not use plastic, thin decorative glass, cracked ceramics, paper containers, wooden containers or objects that can melt, ignite or become unstable.

Control the flame

Wicks & flame

The wick position and visible length directly affect the flame.

Set the wick right

Push the wick into the pearls so it stands upright on its own, with at least 1cm of pearls under it and about 0.6cm showing. It should never touch the base or rest against the side.

Watch the flame

Extinguish the candle if the flame becomes unusually large, unstable, flickers repeatedly or produces visible smoke. Allow everything to cool before adjusting or replacing the wick.

More than one wick

Wicks can sit close together, but closer than you need just wastes wax. About 5cm apart, they quickly share one big melt pool; further apart than 5cm, each keeps its own small pool. What matters most is the distance from the container: about 5cm from the sides and at least 1cm of pearls underneath.

Never alter a burning setup

Do not add, remove, reposition or trim a wick while it is lit or while the wax is hot. Extinguish the flame and let the setup cool fully first.

Stay present

While the candle is burning

A burning candle should remain within sight and under active supervision.

Never leave it unattended

Extinguish the candle whenever you leave the room, even briefly, and always before sleeping.

Do not move it while lit

Never carry, tilt or reposition a burning candle. The vessel and melted wax may be hot. Let the candle cool completely before touching or moving it.

Do not add liquids or fragrance

Never add fragrance oil, essential oil, water or any other liquid to a burning candle or hot wax. Added substances can alter combustion and create a fire or injury risk.

Decorations

Patterns in coloured pearls, our stencils and decor pearls belong on the surface, away from the wick. Anything that can burn — dried flowers, paper, fabric — is used at your own risk: keep it well away from the flame and never let it reach the melted wax.

Keep out of reach

Children & pets

Fragrance-free does not mean child-safe or pet-safe.

Use physical separation

Place lit candles where children and pets cannot reach, brush against, pull, climb towards or knock the setup.

Peace of mind, not permission

Each wick is designed to go out on its own when it is finished, and the pearls help cover the flame if a candle is knocked. It is still a real flame: never leave it unattended and keep it out of reach.

Store components safely

Keep loose wax pearls, spare wicks, fragrance products and packaging away from children and animals when not in use.

Supervision means active supervision

An adult should remain in the room and be able to respond immediately. Cameras, monitors or being elsewhere in the home are not substitutes.

Act quickly

If something goes wrong

  • If the flame becomes unsafe, extinguish it without moving the vessel and allow everything to cool.
  • Do not use water on burning wax, as it can spread hot wax and flame.
  • If a fire cannot be controlled immediately and safely, leave the property, close doors behind you where possible and call 999.
  • If hot wax contacts skin, cool the affected area under cool or lukewarm running water and seek medical advice where needed.
  • Do not reuse a damaged vessel, contaminated wax or a setup involved in a fire incident.
