How much wax do I need?
One pouch is 800g. Here’s what fits.
You choose how much to pour — the rest waits in the pouch for the next candle.
Your own container? Any heat-safe bowl or jar at least 10cm wide inside, with every wick about 5cm from the sides and at least 1cm of pearls under it. Wicks can sit close together — they simply share one melt pool.

The finish
A finish you can feel.
Every Emilie bowl is cast by hand in our UK studio, then finished by Sara to reveal the fine grain within — a soft, matte surface that looks and feels like weathered natural stone.
It is not a painted stone effect: the character comes from the piece itself. Tiny pinholes, gentle movement in the surface and small handmade markings are part of it — no two bowls are completely identical.
- 01AlabasterPale, chalky, calm — the quiet one.
- 02CashmereWarm sand with a soft blush.
- 03SiennaEarthy terracotta, sun-warmed.
- 04OnyxDeep charcoal — the pearls glow against it.
Care: dust with a soft brush; for wax marks, a soft, slightly damp cloth. Never soak it, never the dishwasher.
The Emilie Free-Wick System
Why your wick never touches the bottom of the jar.
Most candles fix the wick to the base and let it burn wherever that leads. Emilie doesn’t. Every wick sits loose in the pearls — clear of the base, clear of the walls. It’s the one decision behind almost everything Emilie does differently.
- 01
It’s why refilling actually works.Melted wax never bonds to your vessel, so once a session ends, the cooled disc lifts out in one piece. Crumble it back into the pearls, add a fresh wick, and your candle is ready again — no scraping, no soaking.
- 02
It’s why the flame is designed to go out on its own.A wick with nothing holding it stays upright only as long as there’s wax around it. Once it reaches the end of its usable length, it tips into the melted pool beneath it and the flame is designed to go out.
- 03
The pearls are designed to help cover the flame.Because there’s always more solid wax around the flame than melted wax beneath it, we built the mechanics so that if a lit vessel is ever knocked over, the loose pearls fall in and help smother the flame rather than spill fuel towards it.
We won’t call this the safest candle in the world — no one should make that promise about an open flame. We built safety into the mechanics, not just onto a warning label. Emilie is still a real candle with a real flame: always burn it on a stable, heat-safe surface, keep it away from children, pets and anything flammable, and never leave it burning unattended.

A real brand, not a warehouse
Made by us. Not found anywhere else.
Every part of Emilie is made or prepared by our family in our own UK studio — not bought in bulk and relabelled.
- 01Our pearled waxPrepared in-house and finished for every colour and scent.
- 02Our wicksEvery cotton wick prepared by hand. Only about 6mm should show above the pearls — a wick needs the melting wax as its fuel.
- 03Our bowlsMade by Sara in our UK studio, in small batches — no two exactly alike.
- 04What’s nextOur own vessels, designed in 3D and cast in our own moulds.
One pouch. Endless candles.
Today one wick for a film. Tomorrow three for dinner.
The same pearls, poured into whatever the moment needs — a bowl, a jar, a row of glass holders. Every time a different candle, every time ready in minutes.

One wick beside the sofa. Up to five hours of calm — and it’s designed to go out on its own when it’s done.

Three wicks in a wide bowl, a line of a second colour on top. Ready before the doorbell.

The same pearls in a few heat-safe glass holders around the bath.

Line an aisle, a beach or a whole party in your colours — and pour the pearls back into the pouch after.

Glass holders along the path, out of the wind.

Pine in winter, shells in summer — the decor changes, the pearls stay.

The Christmas collection
Christmas, in candlelight.

Which bowl should I choose?
For a coffee or dining table: the Emilie Bowl or Core Bowl (up to 5–6 wicks). For a shelf or bedside: the Duo Vessel, Luna Box or Cove Bowl (one wick). The size list on every bowl shows how much wax it holds.
How much wax does each Emilie bowl hold?
The Emilie Bowl up to 600g, the Core Bowl 550g, the Dune Bowl 460g, the Duo Vessel 290g, the Luna Box 180g and the Cove Bowl 125g. One 800g pouch fills any of them, with pearls left for top-ups.
How many wicks does each bowl take?
The Emilie Bowl up to 6, the Core Bowl and Dune Bowl up to 5, the Duo Vessel and Luna Box 1 (2 set close together), the Cove Bowl 1.
Are Emilie bowls handmade?
Yes. Every bowl is cast by hand in our UK studio, finished by Sara and checked before it is packed.
Why does my bowl look slightly different from the photo?
Because it is made by hand. Tone, texture and tiny pinholes vary slightly — that is the character of the finish, and no two bowls are identical.
Does the bowl or jar get hot?
Every lit candle warms its container, and Emilie is a real flame too. What is different is how it burns: only a small pool melts around each wick and the pearls around it stay solid. Place it on a heat-resistant surface, never move it while it is lit, and let everything cool completely before you touch it.
How do I clean my bowl?
Dust it with a soft brush. For wax marks, use a soft, slightly damp cloth. Never soak it and never put it in the dishwasher.
What are the trays and dishes for?
They sit beside your candle: for the cooled wax disc, spare wicks, matches, jewellery or keys. Nothing goes under the bowl.
Can I use the bowl without a candle?
Of course. Between candles it is a beautiful decorative bowl — for keys, jewellery or simply as it is.
