How does Emilie work?

Emilie uses plant-based candle wax formed into tiny pearls instead of one solid block of wax.

Pour the pearls into the handmade vessel, place a cotton wick into the centre and light it. Only the wax directly around the wick melts, creating a small local melt pool rather than melting the entire candle.

Once everything is fully cool, lift out the used wax disc, crumble it back into the pearls if it is still clean, add a fresh wick and enjoy your candle again.

What is the difference between Unscented and Soft Vanilla & Honey?

Unscented gives you candlelight without any added fragrance or colour. It is ideal if you prefer a completely neutral room, are sensitive to strong scents, or simply want the clean visual glow of a candle without fragrance.

Soft Vanilla & Honey creates the same Emilie candle experience with a gentle, comforting fragrance. It is warm and familiar, but designed to feel soft rather than overpowering.

Both Starter Set options come in White and include the same wax quantity, handmade vessel, wick dish and 50 cotton wicks.

How long will my First Candle Set last?

Your complete set provides up to 200+ hours of candlelight, depending on the number of wicks used, their exposed length and the length of each candle session.

One wick can provide approximately 6–8 hours from start to finish, although we recommend burning for no more than four hours at a time and relighting it later.

Using one wick creates a softer glow and helps the set last longer. Several evenly spaced wicks create a larger candle moment but use the wax more quickly.

Is Emilie safe, and can I use another container?

Emilie is a real candle with a real flame, so normal candle care still applies.

The wick is placed freely in the pearls rather than fixed to the bottom. It must remain clear of the vessel base, walls and any decoration. Only a smaller area of wax around the wick melts during use.

Your Starter Set includes a handmade Emilie vessel designed for your first setup. You can later use another suitable, stable heat-safe container, provided it is wide enough to keep every wick safely away from the base, sides and anything flammable.

Always burn on a stable heat-safe surface, keep away from children and pets, and never leave a burning candle unattended.

Why your wick never touches the bottom of the jar.

Most candles fix the wick to the base and let it burn wherever that leads. Emilie doesn't. Every wick sits loose in the pearls — clear of the base, clear of the walls. It's the one decision behind almost everything Emilie does differently.

It's why refilling actually works.

Melted wax never bonds to your vessel, so once a session ends, the cooled disc lifts out in one piece. Crumble it back into the pearls, add a fresh wick, and your candle is ready again — no scraping, no soaking.

It's why the flame is designed to go out on its own.

A wick with nothing holding it stays upright only as long as there's wax around it. Once it reaches the end of its usable length, it tips into the melted pool beneath it and the flame is designed to go out.

The pearls are designed to help cover the flame.

Because there's always more solid wax around the flame than melted wax beneath it, we built the mechanics so that if a lit vessel is ever knocked over, the loose pearls fall in and help smother the flame rather than spill fuel towards it.

THE FAMILY BEHIND EMILIE

We created Emilie for the home we wanted our daughter to grow up in.

Emilie began with our daughter, Emilia. We loved the warmth that candles brought into our home, but we were never completely comfortable with the way an ordinary candle burned — a fixed wick, a very hot jar and an open flame that could keep burning until someone noticed it.

We wanted to create candlelight that felt calmer and more considered. A candle we could refill instead of throw away, shape around our own home, and enjoy with greater peace of mind around our daughter and our cat.

That idea became Emilie Pearled Candle. Today, we make or individually prepare every part of the experience by hand in our UK studio — from our pearled wax and cotton wicks to our vessels, decorative pieces and wick dishes.

Emilie was named after Emilia because she is the reason we cared enough to create it properly.

No. Pour the pearls directly into your chosen suitable vessel, insert a cotton wick and light it. There is no melting, pouring hot wax or specialist equipment required.
